Public Relations

Public Relations Vision: That one day Narcotics Anonymous has universal recognition and respect as a viable program of recovery.

The PR Subcommittee

The Public Relations Subcommittee functions to inform the public that NA is active in the community. Specifically, NA offers recovery from addiction through a 12-step program.  Therefore, the subcommittee maintains communication with the public, especially those segments of society most likely to come in contact with active addicts. These include various levels of government, treatment facilities and the fellowship of NA.

The PR Subcommittee’s functions include:

  • presentations
  • symposiums
  • seminars
  • learning days
  • community posters

In addition, the subcommittee maintains this website and updates an online meeting schedule and a print-ready meeting list.

Public Relations Throughout NA

Narcotics Anonymous clearly states this message: “That an addict, any addict, can stop using drugs, lose the desire to use and find a new way to live.” In our relations with the public, we share this message broadly. As a result, those who might benefit from our program of recovery can find us.

We perform public relations service to increase the awareness and credibility of the NA program. Therefore, we share our message openly with the public at large, with prospective members and with professionals. Maintaining an open, attractive attitude in these efforts helps us nurture relationships with those outside the fellowship. Finally, establishing and maintaining a commitment to these relationships helps us to further our primary purpose.

The spiritual principles of our steps, traditions, and concepts guide our efforts. So we apply these principles in our public relations efforts to enhance NA’s public image and reputation. In addition to our service efforts, we live, as best we can, these principles in our daily affairs.

The PR Handbook is a guide to the various facets of PR work in Narcotics Anonymous. Also, resources for professionals in the treatment, law enforcement, and education industries are available at na.org.
