The NA Group

We define the NA group as any meeting of two or more recovering addicts. A group meets regularly at a specified time and place. And it focuses on recovery from the disease of addiction. The Fifth Tradition defines the group’s primary purpose: “to carry the message to the addict who still suffers.”

The group provides an atmosphere of recovery. As a result, the newcomer and the existing member feel welcome. The NA group carries a powerful message of hope and the promise of freedom. As stated in the Basic Text of Narcotics Anonymous: “An addict, any addict, can stop using, lose the desire to use and find a new way to live.”

The Tampa Funcoast Area has groups that host meeting a week. In addition to meetings in the city of Tampa, Florida, these groups host meetings in the surrounding community. This includes Hillsborough County and the cities of Brandon, Lutz, Plant City, Riverview, Ruskin and Sumterville. This website contains an interactive meeting list. You may search by day of the week, city, NA group, location, zip code and meeting format.

In addition to hosting meetings, these groups stage events such as dances, picnics and retreats. And finally, the groups take care of the day-to-day business of NA and stay in touch with other groups through the Area Service Committee.
The group may conduct its own affairs in whatever way seems fit to its members. Therefore, our groups practice self-government, taking care that their actions do not adversely affect other groups or NA as a whole.

Please refer to the NA booklet The Group for more information. Also, the book A Guide to Local Services provides a more detailed look at the NA group.
